I am currently working with a school in the Dewsbury area, which has recently been graded as Good by Ofsted. The school is a smaller than average school and aims to create a nurturing, caring, supportive environment where pupils are able to achieve their potential, feel valued and are able to express their creativity freely.

The school is currently looking for a Learning Support Unit Manager to provide professional leadership and management of the departmental team of teaching and associate staff in order to secure high quality teaching, the effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement of all students referred to the LSU. You will also support the teaching and learning of students experiencing emotional difficulties, disaffection, lack of confidence, or who are being reintegrated following a period of absence, and also support the students in their alternative provision and their return to mainstream classes.

A successful candidate should have:

• Evidence of experience of successful delivery of subject/subjects at KS3 and KS4 in a secondary school.

• Experience of teaching students with behavioural/social and or emotional difficulties.

• Evidence of involvement in continued Professional Development.

• Knowledge of LSU/alternative provision.

• Proven track record of successful teaching at KS3 and KS4 – through employment or teacher training.

• Consistently excellent classroom practice, management and organisation;

• Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders.

• A motivational and positive ‘presence’ within the LSU department and around the academy

• Proven ability to inspire and motivate students who are disengaged and who have behavioural, social and/or emotional issues.

• Experience of innovation in the classroom.

• Experience of involvement in after school clubs and whole school activities
