Higher Level Teaching Assistant Needed

  • Are you an confident Graduate Teaching Assistant who is looking to enhance your knowledge and use your class room expertise in an exciting new role as a Higher Learning Teaching Assistant Role (HLTA)?
  • Are you a passionate and capable Teaching Assistant who fully understands SEN Teaching practices and you possess an excellent knowledge of PECS, Makaton or other alternative forms of communication?
  • Are you highly skilled and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HTLA)? Are you able to support SEN/SEMH?

The School

Teaching Personnel are working with a special non-maintained school catering for young people with social, emotional and behavioural problems between the ages of 7 and 18.

Every one of the students is treated as an individual and has the support of a highly qualified and experienced staff team including teachers, teaching assistants, care workers, social workers and therapist. we have invested heavily in modern, well equipped classrooms and work areas to provide the pupils with an environment in which to grow and learn

Person Specification for SEN/HLTA

The school want to meet an SEN/HLTA arrives with the skills to display a fervent desire to become a teacher and be in tune with pupils needs. As an SEN/HLTA you will be a resolute graduate who has already held a paid role where you supported SEN learners and at least received a 2:1 in your degree.

The ideal SEN HLTA will have a real understanding of and passion for special educational needs and its place within the modern school curriculum.

About the SEN/HLTA Role

This is not a classroom based role, you will be responsible for covering classes for absent staff, covering PPA time when necessary. As a SEN/HLTA your role will involve you supporting teaching and learning across the school. Part of your role will see you promoting support and inclusion of pupils, organising and safety managing learning activities as pre-determined by the teacher. It is desirable you hold an HLTA Certificate for this role

Candidates must have:

A proven track record of supporting pupils and teachers in a class based context

Minimum 6 months working experience in this field

Have a minimum HLTA/NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification
