SEMH Support Assistant

A role has arisen in a primary school in Blackburn for a Specialist Support Assistant. The role would be working across EYFS and Key Stage 1 on a full time basis. Due to the current circumstances, children are experiencing a large period of absence from school. For some children, this will mean little to no structure, continuously poor living conditions and limited social interaction with family and friends. Accordingly, returning to school and to the rules, routines and structure of a school day may be a struggle. Especially for the new intake of Reception children, who have not had the opportunity to go into school and attend the arranged transition days in the Summer term. With this in mind, the school aim to support their pupils with their transition back to school as much as possible.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an excellent ability to build positive relationships with pupils, in which the pupils feel safe to relax, share and enjoy themselves. They will demonstrate a creative approach to planning for the various small group sessions, that should be tailored to meet the needs, targets and interests of the pupils attending. A qualification in Psychology, Counselling, SEN or any other subject relevant to the post is essential.

The role is to start on Thursday 3rd September 2020, continuing until July 2021 on a full time basis with the view to become a permanent role. The expected working hours for this role are 8:45-15:30, Monday - Friday. Rates of pay are competitive starting at GBP10 per hour paid into your bank account on a weekly basis.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
