- Long term, part time position
- Negotiable rates of pay £48.50-55.50
I currently work with a large mainstream secondary school in Clitheroe who require a BSL Teaching Assistant to support the needs of their students who are deaf or hearing impaired. The school are seeking Teaching Assistants experienced in BSL ASAP. As a BSL Teaching Assistant you would help deaf students in their education by interpreting spoken English into British Sign Language (BSL) and adapt learning materials.
You will also:
- Take into account the needs of your learners
- Help them communicate with others in class
- Support them by lipspeaking and notetaking
- Interpret between spoken English and BSL
- Be creative in adapting learning materials to match learners’ interests
- Use a range of ways to help them grasp what is required in class
- Help students to produce written work
- Support learners in talking about their learning needs with teachers
- Build relationships with learners, their families, and other professionals
- Think of ways for learners to become more independent
- Provide deaf-awareness training for other staff and students
- Support the school/college in improving the environment for hearing aids and lipreading
You may also be required to support the needs of other students with SEN including PMLD, SLD, ASC and complex needs therefore experience in this area would be preferable.
If you have excellent communication skills and would like to further develop an understanding of deaf culture, this could be the job for you.
