Residential & Classroom support needed in Specialist Setting

Job description

We are currently working with a small independent special school which provides education and care for children and young people with autistic spectrum condition. We have a number of exciting opportunities arising which include to help students throughout their school day, right from getting up in the morning to finishing at the end of the school day! The school are ideally looking for support staff who are able to help in the boarding school from 7am and then continue on in to the school setting at 8.45am. You will then support students with their learning in class up until the end of the school day.

You will be a flexible, positive, energetic and enthusiastic individual who will work as part of a team and your main duties will include:

  • Supporting students with ASC whilst encouraging and developing the individual's life skills.
  • Ensuring safety and well-being and the quality of support given meets the identified needs of the individual student.
  • Provide a high quality of care and contribute to the smooth and safe running of the residential setting.
  • Support students during intimate care.
  • Follow and implement school policies and procedures, making sure accurate records and documentation is maintained.
  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained including monitoring and maintaining resources, organising laundry and keeping the house clean and tidy.
  • Support the students alongside colleagues in the classroom, during break periods and at lunch times
  • Under the direction of the Class Teacher, help prepare for lessons, contribute towards and carry out schemes of work and Individual Student Plans (ISP) and Care Plans
  • Keep an up-to-date knowledge of each student's stage of development regarding assessment, communication, ISPs and management programmes
  • Support the Class Teacher in planning and preparing for educational visits and school journeys and accompany students on such visits


  • Maths and English GCSE Grade C or above - essential
  • NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning - desirable
  • Relevant experience working with students with autism or learning disabilities in an educational setting - desirable
  • Experience working with students across the ability range and autistic spectrum - desirable
  • To be able to drive and hold a full driving licence - desirable
