Reading and Writing Support Assistant - Accrington Primary

Date posted : 25/09/18
£9.00 - £10.00 per hour + CPD

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Are you experienced in the planning and delivery of Reading and Writing activities at Primary level?

Can you work in the Accrington area on a daily basis?

Could you work with small groups and individual children in order to raise standards in spelling, fluency, comprehension and grammatical work?

If you have previously worked with lower attaining children delivering Reading and Writing focused intervention programmes then this may be a role for you.

The Role

This role will be to start in October 2018, and continue for the remainder of the academic year, definitely until the Year 6 SATs are completed. You will be expected to plan and deliver high quality interventions on a daily basis to groups and individual children. The age range of the children will vary from 6 years old to 11, and so you must be able to develop your teaching style in order to meet individual needs. You will have some guidance from the SENCO in school who has already targeted individual children for this type of support, particularly in Reading and Writing. There will also be good opportunities in the working day to discuss progress with the class teacher, and any input can then be implemented into next steps. To ensure you will be effective in this role it is imperative that you have a good knowledge of the Curriculum in KS2 and have prior experience. You will be expected to work collectively with the Curriculum objectives and the local framework in order to meet individual needs.

The School

The school is larger than national average and caters for children from a mixed catchment area, some children are from Asian Heritage backgrounds but mostly the children arrive from White British backgrounds. With the mixed catchment, the school are keen to drown out any disruptive behaviour using their structured behaviour policy, which seems to be effective. You must use this policy consistently and ensure you set professional boundaries with the children. The school have recently received GOOD by Ofsted during a full inspection, however the progress of children from Year 3-6 particularly in reading and parts of writing is falling behind the progress made in maths other foundation subjects. With this in mind, the Head teacher and the Senior Leadership Team have put together a recovery plan which involves the appointment of an extra member of experienced staff to work with targeted children. The role will take place in and out of the classroom and so you must be prepared to be completely independent.
