Pupil Support assistant

Job description

Are you looking to bring your passion for supporting others into a classroom? Teaching Personnel are working closely with a partner school in Ely, West Cardiff to find a highly driven Teaching Assistant to support a year 9 pupil in need of emotional support.

The school provides strong support for pupils from a range of behavioural and SEN backgrounds. Many of our teaching assistants are able to work in different provisions catered to specialist areas and key interests. Some of these include;

  • Revolving door, mainstream integration unit

For this specific role, you will be working with a pupil in need of additional emotional support. Although the pupil thrives academically, she struggles to integrate successfully in certain aspects of mainstream school life. Often the pupil will exhibit a temper and will need to be reassured and calmed down by her 1:1.

The role requires someone from a highly patient and empathetic demeanour that will be able to understand the pupils key interests and form a strong bond. Ultimately, the ideal candidate will be a role model for the pupil who will encourage them and provide confidence in the mainstream classroom and in social interactions around the school.

Candidates that are suited for this type of school tend to have experience in some of the following:

  • Criminology
  • Youth/Community work experience
  • SEN experience
  • Residential support/care worker
  • Sports coaching
  • Team Teach
  • Youth Offending Services
  • Challenging behaviour within family
  • Mentoring
  • Teaching/Learning support Assistance
  • Psychology

The role is due to start immediately and will be for the remainder of the academic year with the potential to be put onto a permanent school contract dependant upon your performance.

  • 1:1 support for a pupil with challenging behaviour and emotional support
  • For remainder of Academic year (July)
  • Opportunity to remain permanently at the school
  • £9-10 an hour
  • Access to CPD Accredited courses
  • Opportunities for progression

The school are keen to see people sooner rather than later, so please do not hesitate to apply for immediate consideration.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
