Primary Teacher, Sydenham

A three form entry Primary school, situated in Sydenham, is seeking a vibrant individual to join their lovely team to start immediately.

This position is to work with students who have been diagnosed with Autism and/or Learning Difficulties.

The pupils all need extra support to ensure they reach their full potential.

You must have strong experience teaching SEN pupils, with the ability to keep students engaged through carefully planned lessons based on their learning needs.

  • There is onsite parking at the school for all staff.
  • Being a 3 from entry, the school is a massive community of lovely staff, pupils and parents
  • Pay - £120 to £150 a day, determined by your previous experience.
  • Short working hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm

The Position:

The base has 2 classrooms:

Gold Stars

  • 10 year 5/6 children - 7 with a diagnosis of Autism. All working below their age related peers in English and Maths.
  • 2 teaching assistants in the morning.
  • 1 teaching assistant in the afternoon.

Rising Stars

  • 6 year 3/4 children - 6 with a diagnosis of autism, 1 with Social, Emotional difficulties
  • 1 teaching assistant
  • You will be joining two part time teaches in the team - your position would involve covering the gaps where they are both not in school. This means teaching Gold Stars class on Thursdays and Fridays, being responsible for the annual reviews and IEPs of half the class. It would involve joint planning with the teacher who takes the class Monday - Wednesday.
  • Monday - Wednesday would involve teaching Rising Stars in the afternoons, covering PPA and having your own PPA. You would also be responsible for the annual reviews and IEPs of some of the children in Rising Stars.

Structure of the practical interview:

Those who are shortlisted will be invited to a practical interview.

8:30am arrival - Meet with the Lead Teacher. Go to Gold Stars classroom

9:00 am - 11:15 - observe Gold Stars

11:15 - break

11:30 - teach maths lesson. The lesson would be focused on finding 1 more or less than any number.

12:45 - children lunch break. Have lunch/ chat with class teacher about the class.

2:00 - teach a Social skill lesson in Rising Stars. Please can you plan a lesson around emotions - what they look like/ what can cause the feelings/ how you can change the feelings.

3:15 - children go home. Chat with the Lead Teacher of the ASD base.

You will be given feedback on your interview/notified if you have been offered the position within 2 days. If you are successful you will be asked to start immediately.

Please note you must have a DBS registered on the update service and two exceptionally strong references to be considered.
