Part Time Primary Teacher

Experienced and Newly Qualified Teachers required to work with small groups of children.

Mainly English and Mathematics will be covered in the small grouped sessions.

QTS is a necessity, as is the experience working in KS2 year groups.

The Head teacher of a Darwen school is keen to appoint a temporary Teacher to work with small groups of children in Year 3. Recently, the school has received additional funding for this scheme in order to boost lower attaining children before they start developing further into KS2. The school will support the newly appointed part time temporary teacher to ensure the children are given the best opportunity of progressing throughout this intervention programme. The Head teacher is wanting to view CVs in advance and then progress further by meeting applicants on a 1:1 basis. You will not be expected to undertake a formal observation in school but the Head teacher will expect a level of understanding and confidence surrounding the experience you have with KS2 aged children.

The school does have a mixed catchment area; with some children arriving from private and professional backgrounds as well as children from rented and social housing backgrounds. With this there is a mixture of academic abilities and behaviours across school. It is therefore important that you are able to think on your feet, have a good strong presence in the classroom and you can effectively manage challenging behaviour….The Head teacher mentioned that this was a priority even though you will be working in small groups. The majority of the children who will be receiving this intervention do struggle with basic Maths and English which is also connected to their behaviour and levels of attention in larger groups.

This role will be perfect for any qualified teacher who is looking to give back to the children. In the past, we have found that the people who enjoy this role the most are usually looking for part time work and possibly semi retired. However you are welcome to apply as an NQT!

The working hours are not yet confirmed, however there is a teacher currently working in school in a similar role who covers four children across two full afternoon sessions. The school has been very flexible around the availability of this candidate. They have also asked her to come into school on other days in the week to cover other small grouped and individual activities. As it stands, the working hours will be Monday and Tuesday afternoons- 1300-1530.

If you are interested then please do contact me in the office by sending over an up to date CV and cover email. It is also worth noting that we have a number of opportunities separate to this part time teaching role that may be of interest.
