Geography Teacher

Part-time (0.6 FTE), Permanent

Salary: Maximum £23,640 pa depending on experience

(Based on £39,406 pa FTE)

I am currently recruiting for a school within the Focus Learning Trust, who is part of the OneSchool global network, one of the most extensive and progressive networks of schools and educational support services in the world. With schools in 20 countries worldwide, their 9,000 students are benefiting from the amazing results of global collaboration and cutting-edge educational methods.

The small and friendly team at the Maidstone Campus have an opportunity for a Geography Teacher to join the team on a part-time (0.6 FTE), permanent basis, supporting students across KS3 and KS4, with the potential to teach KS5 at a future date if required. You will possess a strong understanding of how children learn, you will be adept at navigating our students to see and lead through challenges in their learning, so they make the best possible progress in each and every lesson.

Focus Learning Trust operates a flipped and self-directed style of teaching and learning which involves the use of pre-recorded video tutorials, online self-directed learning assignments via our 'Canvas' Learning Platform, as well as live video conferencing classes, small group and one to one scenarios. The monitoring of student progress and timely provision of appropriate feedback and individual support is regarded as essential to ensuring the success of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To plan, implement and monitor schemes of work, lesson plans and student Self Directed Learning assignments for subject. Each lesson plan is to indicate which outcomes will be addressed in the lesson and what resources will be used, in line with the FLT subject curriculum
  • To ensure the Self Directed Learning philosophy of the school is present in the opportunities presented to the students
  • To develop and fully utilise assignments and tasks centred on the school virtual learning environment (Canvas) including homework, quizzes and discussion forums
  • Use a wide range of resources and extracurricular activities to provide students with a broad range of activities and experiences in keeping with the School's guidelines
  • To set targets, based on prior attainments, and undertake effective, informative marking which will extend and develop all students
  • To keep appropriate records of progress and attainment of students for use in planning and for reporting accordingly to parents

You will:

  • Have Qualified Teacher Status and a degree or similar Geography related qualification
  • Possess recent experience of teaching Geography to KS3 - KS5
  • Knowledge of GCSE Geography exam specifications
  • The ability to teach Geography at A Level
  • Have a proven and demonstrable record of highly successful classroom-based practise
  • Have a good grasp of technology and its use in education
  • Be relentlessly positive, with a 'can do' attitude
  • Have a diverse set of skills which will enable you to be flexible working in the classroom and our learning centre
  • Be an innovative and reflective practitioner who is keen to learn
  • Committed to improving the life chances of every child
  • Respect the schools Ethos and Values
