Learning Mentor required in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a specialist alternative provision in High Wycombe that caters for young people with severe learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health difficulties and Autism. They are currently looking for a Learning Mentor to support thier students on a full time basis.

Skills and abilities required:

• Knowledge of the national school curriculum

• Good observation and assessment skills

• Knowledge of a range of learning support needs

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work within a team working environment and also able to work independently

Personal qualities required:

• Calm under pressure, adaptable and energetic

• A caring and positive attitude

• A good listener and sensitivity to pupils needs

• Positive behaviour management

• A good sense of humour

• Must be physically fit and able to engage in a range of activities

Main responsibilities:

• Support learning for individual pupils and small groups and assist with the implementation of lesson plans

• Enable pupils to become independent learners and provide positive support motivating and encouraging pupils

• Clarifying and explaining instructions, assisting in such areas as language, behaviour, reading, spelling, handwriting, listening and presentation

• Meet the physical, emotional, behavioural and or other special needs of pupils

• Prepare classroom/educational materials and organise supplies of materials

• Provide supervision during break/lunch times as required

• Escort pupils on educational visits/trips in a group with the teacher

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
