I am currently looking for a learning support assistant for a Cardiff Secondary School to start after the Easter break (March ‘23). The school we are working alongside have specified they need someone who feels confident working with a diverse group of individuals as you will be tasked with supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and those that need support with their concentration and engagement. The school have a high number of Looked after children (LAC) so you will need to be able to support pupils who come from a vulnerable background.

After speaking with the school’s senior leadership team we were asked to support with their recruitment for a learning support assistant due to 2 pupils requiring additional support for the rest of the academic year. Your time will be split between the 2 pupils and you will be tasked with building relationships quickly and efficiently on a one-to-one basis.

The successful Learning support assistant must be able to communicate effectively and have the ability to build relationships with pupils that often struggle in social situations. For this role you will need to have a personable and patient manner and be able to support in addition to the class teacher. The 2 individuals you will be supporting both have additional learning needs and will need someone that can communicate effectively and break down tasks set by the class Teachers/leaders.  

The school’s leadership team have specifically asked for individuals that are adaptable as two days are never the same. Working with pupils who may not have had 1:1 support previously, you will be tasked with acting as a mentor and role model for the young people you work with and trust will need to be built quickly. As these pupils can show signs of challenging behaviour, you will need to be resilient and not afraid to think on your feet when it comes to deescalating situations.

  • Learning Support Assistant Vacancies – March start date
  • Full Time Mon-Fri for the full academic year
  • Potential of a School contract being offered after successful probation period
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs & challenging behaviour
  • Communicating effectively to pupils and Teachers in order to develop schemes of work
  • Build relationships and become a role model to your pupil on a one-to-one basis
  • Pay From £385 per week

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
