Literacy Mentor

A mixed comprehensive secondary school in the Trafford area is looking for a Literacy Mentor to start with them during the next half term. The successful Literacy Mentor will be working within the English department supporting students with examination preparation for the upcoming GCSE exams. The English department at this large secondary school is highly supportive and well versed in having graduates work within their department. Having supported this secondary school for the past 2 academic years, Teaching Personnel are well placed to support any Literacy Mentors with securing work at this supportive, reputable and all round positive secondary school.

The successful Literacy Mentor will be working with year 11 students at KS4 level as well as younger students at KS3 where possible. The primary focus of the role is to support those year 11 students who have been identified as requiring further support and intervention. There will also be the chance to support younger students with their Literacy including year 7s who have been identified as being behind their peers.

Key aspects of the Literacy Mentor role:

• Full time Literacy Mentor required to start during the next half term
• Work with students in year 7 and year 11 providing a range of assistance and intervention
• Mentor students who have been identified as requiring individual support
• Work with small groups of students as well as 1-to-1 where required
• Support with a large English department working closely with all teachers and the Head of Department
• Pay will be dependent upon experience and range between £1175 - £1350 per month

The Head of English at this school is very supportive of graduates and all staff in her department. The English department is well resourced with a team of teachers who range from newly qualified to those more experienced in their teaching careers. The successful Literacy Mentor will benefit from the support and guidance of the team working with the entire department to support a range of students wherever required. The successful Literacy Mentor should be proficient in English Language and Literature and ideally have an English degree background or related subject specialism. Any prior mentoring background would be highly beneficial but not essential for this role.

The successful Literacy Mentor will be required for the remainder of the academic year supporting year 7s and 11s up until study leave and the start of the GCSE examinations and then moving on to support the year 7s and other KS3 classes following the exam period.

The school is situated in the central Trafford area making it very easy to access for the successfully appointed Literacy Mentor. The school is located off the main public transport link for those travelling via public transport. For those travelling by car, there is a large on site car park for the use of all staff.
