We have an exciting opportunity as a Learning Support Assistant/Mentor for teaching assistants, graduates and support workers starting in September 2020 in a Special Need School in Uxbridge for children aged 2-19 years old. The role is full-time Monday to Friday as a Learning Mentor supporting children 1:1 or in small groups with a range of needs including autism, physical disabilities, challenging behaviours and learning difficulties.

Children within the school are aged 2-19 years old with autism, sensory needs, disabilities, severe learning difficulties and speech difficulties. Learning Support Assistants would be required to support with learning by delivering 1:1 learning programmes and with care through supporting pupils with physio, therapy and personal care when needed. With some pupils with additional behaviours that may challenge being able to mentor, manage behaviour and de-escalate is vital.

Specialist training may be provided dependant on the pupils you will be supporting so being open to continued training and development is vital.

The school is based in Hillingdon and easily accessible through local tube and train links from Uxbridge and West Drayton Station with local bus routes across West London.

Requirements:

  • Have either personal experience supporting autism, disabilities, severe learning difficulties, speech difficulties or challenging behaviours (sibling, child, parent etc)
  • Or a caring background as a special needs teaching assistant, nursery assistant, health care assistant, support worker or respite carer
  • Must be available to start full-time in September 2020 Monday to Friday between 8:30 -4:00pm
  • Must be open to supporting children with personal care, feeding and/or moving and handling (and open to training)
  • Must be based in Uxbridge, Hillingdon or in local areas
  • Must have a positive attitude, pro-activity and be able to learn new skills quickly
  • Makaton, PECS, Sign-a-long, Positive Behaviour Support, Moving and Handling, TEACCH, AAC, Team Teach (TT) de-escalation training is highly beneficial (TT training offered at a subsidised rate through Teaching Personnel)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
