Learning Support Assistant

A special school in South Leeds are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to provide targeted support and behaviour intervention for pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Conditions from September 2020.

Our client is a day special school for children and young people between the ages of 5 and 19 who experience moderate learning difficulties.  The school is located in Middleton, to the South of Leeds. The number of places currently available in school is 215. Pupils can be admitted throughout the academic year, but the majority will take up places at the beginning of the autumn term.

Pupils are placed in an age or need appropriate group. Each group will have a teacher responsible for pastoral care, and a designated team of support staff.

The Learning Support Assistant post has become available due to the continued expansion of this forward-looking and innovative Special School with three consecutive `Outstanding’ Ofsted Inspections. You will be responsible for supporting pupils during their transition back into education in the new academic year. The successful applicant will work as part of a team delivering an education programme based on the theory of Applied Behaviour Analysis to children with a diagnosis of Autism, or related communication impairments. ABA is defined as an applied natural science devoted to developing and analysing procedures that produce effective and beneficial changes in behaviour. The role involves following an individual programme designed specifically for each student which will also include recording data at the end of each day for analysis.

Training opportunities can and will be provided for successful candidates. Appointees will also receive positive handling training (Team Teach) as part of their induction.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
