Learning Support Assistant

Do you have experience as a teaching assistant and a passion for supporting vulnerable young people overcoming academic challenges daily?

A central Manchester secondary school is seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to work with their most vulnerable learners faced with academic challenges every day due to Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social and Emotional Mental Health requirements (SEMH) and English as an Additional Language requirements (EAL). Students faced with these challenges most at risk of falling behind their peers making Learning Support Assistants essential staff when schools return full time.

The position that has opened is full time and temporary, working to support vulnerable young people to achieve their academic potential by working with them in class alongside regular classroom teachers, SEN coordinators and senior school leaders, as well as providing one-on-one and small group pastoral support outside the classroom. The successful candidate will work with students of all ages between years 7-11 and will be expected to provide programmes of additional work outside the classroom as well as the above responsibilities, whilst working to be a positive role model and raise self-esteem amongst vulnerable children.

The candidate who progresses will join a secondary school located towards the outskirt of central Manchester. The school has core values pertaining to the importance of community and promotes the ethos that every student is valued as much as the last. With this in mind, prospective candidates can see the importance of supporting all vulnerable students to the school. It’s these high standards that have achieved an Ofsted Report rating of ‘Good’ for the school and kept Progress 8 scores at the UK average, and the school will want a new Learning Support Assistant to reflect these standards themselves and in the children they support.

We would like to see applications candidates who meet the following requirements:

-          Experience supporting SEN, SEMH, EAL students

-          Experience as a teaching assistant or other classroom support

-          Experience supporting children from a youth work environment or who are in-care

-          Passion for supporting vulnerable young people

In terms of travel, the schools location on the fringes of central Manchester mean that it can be easily commuted to via car or public transport. For driving candidates, the school is a short distance from Princess Road which provides links to the M56, M60 and the city centre. For candidates wishing to utilise public transport the school lies close to various bus routes from the city centre as well as other outer-Manchester areas.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
