Learning Support Assistant in White City Primary School, London

A lovely 1-form entry school in White City are currently looking for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA). Off the back of recent National Well-being awards for staff and pupils, this school has received funding for new Learning Support Assistants.

The school has a specialist resource base for autism, where approximately 16 children are split in two different classes. The children range in ability from low-functioning and non-verbal, to children who may express severe cases of challenging behaviour.

The role will involve supporting children on both a 1:1 and small group basis. This will include delivering work focusing on Numeracy, Literacy, Social Skills and Communication. 50% of the work is set by the class Teacher, whilst the other half is an opportunity for you to create your own objectives with the child.

The school benefits from close transport links allowing children to experience out-of-the-classroom learning - from places such as: the Natural History Museum, Football Stadiums, Regents Park and many more learning opportunities across London. There will also be an opportunity to part-take in extra-curricular activities in Sports, Music and more!

Shortlisting criteria include:

  • Experience working with ASC and/or other SEN
  • Ability to use PECS, Makaton or BSL is desirable but not essential
  • Willingness to be involved with extra-curricular activities
  • Passion for helping raise pupil attainment

Do you have what we're looking for?

  • High level of emotional intelligence
  • 1st Class or 2:1 degree (Education/ Psychology related preferred)
  • Experience working within a classroom/education related setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the primary curriculum
  • Confidence working with children independently
  • Be able to lead large group activities
  • Have an animated personality and be a strong team player
  • Takes constructive feedback/developing your own skills
  • High standard of numeracy and literacy
  • English, Maths and Science GCSE (A-C)
  • Ability to adapt easily to different situations
  • Committed to improving children's life chances
