Teaching Personnel are recruiting Learning Mentor / Teaching Assistants for a school which provides education and support services throughout the community to support pupils to access education in schools and community centres.
The successful candidate should have experience of working with young people who suffer from learning difficulties and/or mental health. They will be professional in their approach, organised in their working and have lots of patience. Additional interests in creative arts and sports would also be an advantage.
If you have high levels of emotional intelligence and resilience with an understanding of how to manage young people with complex needs and the desire to help make a difference to young people's lives then we would like to hear from you
Responsibilities
- Support for students in accessing learning activities in a variety of settings, including vocational placements, as directed by Teacher/Senior Staff.
- Encourage students to engage in learning activities and promote good behaviour through modelling.
- Assist with the supervision of students during off-site activities, including training placements.
- Building positive working relationships with other members of staff and children.
Experience & Job Knowledge
Essential
- Experience of supporting young people with behavioural & learning difficulties; off-site activities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Writing clear and accurate reports and assisting in writing care plans
- Ability to follow instructions, and to use initiative to work with young people in a variety of outreach placements, including Food & Nutrition, P.E./Outdoor Education, and Vocational placements
- Ability to maintain good discipline and challenge negative behaviour
Educational Requirements:
- GCSE English and Maths (A*-C) or Adult Literacy & Numeracy Level 2 equivalent
- Level 3 qualification in working with children or young people
- Ability to visit and provide support in all ACE Bases
- Full driving licence and access to a car
