Position: Higher Learning Teaching Assistant

To start: In January (start date can be flexible)

End date: TBC dependant on funding

Sector: Welsh Medium Primary

Pay: GBP11 to GBP16 per hour

Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit an experienced Welsh Medium Higher Learning Teaching Assistant for a Welsh Medium Primary School in Torfaen. The successful candidate will be expected to provide well-being and catch up sessions to children on an individual, timetabled basis following recent funding called the Accelerated Learning Grant. The grant was offered to school following the COVID crisis where it is clear that many learners have not progressed as much as they might in terms of their progress in learning, some having been impacted more seriously than others.

The focus of the role will be:

  • Literacy, numeracy and digital competence within a broad and balanced curriculum – for the examination years, this will include higher order reading and writing skills, high level mathematics where relevant, and digital competence at the appropriate level and as relevant to learners progressing with their qualifications
  • Development of independent learning skills, to enable and motivate learners in all groups to make accelerated progress by working more effectively alone and out of school
  • Support and engagement through coaching – this in recognition that the most disengaged learners will need coaching and emotional support as well as support for examination preparation and skills

 The successful candidate will have mimimum planning as a programme has been in put in place already, however, some aspects may need tweaking depending on the individual.

In order to be considered, you must:

  • Have a CACHE Level 4 qualification or above;
  • Have previous experience working with children;
  • Be registered as a Qualified Teacher with the Education Workforce Council
  • Hold an Enhanced CHILD ONLY DBS
  • Communicate effectively through the medium of welsh (oral, reading and writing)

Previous experience of providing intervention and well-being support would be desirable but not essential.
