Head of Education 

Teaching Personnel is working with an Alternative Provision in Riccall, York, to appoint a Head of Education from September 2020 on a permanent contract. Please see below for full details of the post.

About the Provision:

  • Head Office is based in York, with an Alternative Provision site in York and Doncaster, with future plans to expand into County Durham and further across Yorkshire
  • Provide Maths and English education and other AQA units through practical learning
  • 80 pupils on roll across York and Doncaster on timetables from 1 to 4 days a week, up to the age of 25 years old for those with EHCPs
  • Referrals for young people up to 25 years old for those with EHCPs, Offenders in the Community, Non-School Attenders and those with complex Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
  • Work to re-integrate young people into mainstream education, where appropriate and suitable
  • To engage students by utilising the countryside and the environment
  • To draw on the experience and knowledge of their expanding team who have created a unique learning environment, which can be tailored to suit the needs of the most demanding of young people
  • Students arrive with a variety of learning and behavioural challenges, who find that learning in an academic school setting is not suitable for them
  • Provide young people with an opportunity to experience a hands-on approach to learning, enabling them to develop new skills and interests with a view to preparing them for a return to education or employment in adulthood

About the job role as Head of Education:

  • Based in York but with responsibility for both York and Doncaster sites
  • To monitor progression, staff performance and identify problems and solutions, to then implement new policies and practices
  • Have good overall business knowledge
  • To contribute to monthly meetings
  • Working alongside the current Head of Education, whilst they are transitioning into a new role
  • To liaise with Local Authorities, such as York City Council, North Yorkshire, Harrogate, East Riding and South Yorkshire
  • Full Time position with a salary of GBP40,000 to GBP60,000 per annum, dependant on experience and qualifications

Who would be a suitable candidate?

  • Empathic, committed and resilient individual, who is able to work flexibly and creatively
  • The Successful candidate will be hands on and love working directly with young adults, using the natural environment
  • The ability to engage and educate
  • Valid clean full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience working with children and young adults (from 11-25 years of age) with challenging behaviour
  • A Secondary School Fully Qualified Teacher (QTS) with previous Senior Leadership experience
  • Deputy or Assistant Head Teacher
  • Vice Principal
  • Head Teacher
  • Principal
  • Head of Department within a Special Needs School or Alternative Provision
