Are you a graduate who is keen to become a teacher in the future?
Are you looking to pursue a PGCE in the near future and would like more experience of supporting in a secondary school?
Our client secondary school in the central Manchester area is looking for a strong, confident graduate to join them in September to work as a Teaching Assistant and embark upon a graduate teacher internship. The role is a full time support role where the prospective future teacher would start as a teaching assistant, supporting in the classroom including supporting students in a variety of subjects gaining as much experience as possible across the age and ability range. The role would also include some cover of lessons as the term progresses and the passionate graduate gains more confidence preparing you for a career as a teacher in the best way possible.
This school has direct links with a National Teaching School where the successful graduate can progress onto a school based teacher training contract following a year as a Teaching Assistant. The school’s direct lead for the teaching school has specifically mentioned that they are keen to take on an enthusiastic graduate who can exercise good behaviour management skills within the classroom and ensure students stay on task as required. The prospective future teacher should therefore be motivated and flexible in their approach, willing to work across departments and have a real passion for working with young people at secondary school age. If you have a specific subject specialism or keen interest in an area, please ensure you highlight this on your application.
Key highlights of the future teacher grad scheme:
- Full time, long term opportunity to work within a secondary school environment
- Pay will range between GBP1300 - GBP1350 per month
- Gain the ideal experience to set you up ready for a future in teaching and to support a PGCE application (opportunity to transition directly onto a SCITT Programme)
- Network within a secondary school that is a key part of the local community and has links with other local secondary schools and feeder primary schools
- Opportunity to support at this supportive secondary school for the entire academic year as a future teacher
The role of a graduate teaching assistant will involve working with students in small groups and also on a 1:1 basis. Depending on what your degree specialism is in, there is the chance to provide specific tutoring to students in this subject and exercise your specialist knowledge. The role of a cover supervisor is to deliver pre-set work to students within a classroom setting. There will be an element of training involved as this is a role where the successful graduate can really experience what it is like to manage a class of students.
The school is located in the central Manchester area, making it very easily accessible from the city centre as well as for those graduates able to travel in via public transport or by car.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who is an aspirational teacher of the future as there is no better experience to get you ready for a role in education. The successful candidate should be available in September to start with the school from the beginning of the new academic year (with the view that schools will be open again on a national basis).
