Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN)

A special school in Leeds are seeking a Graduate Teaching Assistant for a full-time role, commencing September 2020.

This role is ideal for a recent graduate who may be looking to gain experience in a temporary position within Special Needs Education before commencing further study in SEN Teaching or Educational Psychology.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide support for pupils aged 3-19 with a range of additional learning needs including:

• Autistic Spectrum Conditions
• Moderate Learning Difficulties
• Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs

In addition to supporting access to the curriculum, you will also provide holistic support for pupils which may include implementing programmes in Rebound Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Mental Health support, Occupational Therapy and/or Hydrotherapy. It is therefore essential that you are prepared to deliver a range of physical activities and take a ‘hands on’ approach with pupils. You may also be required to provide personal care for specific pupils.

You role will include:

• Undertaking assessments, including assessment of academic ability, mental health needs, and risk assessments
• Establishing a collaborative working relationship with the colleagues and pupils based on principles of trust and respect
• Implementing specific learning activities as instructed by class teachers
• Empowering pupils to gain independence and make positive changes to their behaviour
• Collaborating with - and provide advice to - colleagues, the broader multidisciplinary team and parents/carers in the planning and provision of services to meet pupils’ needs
• Carrying out continuing personal and professional development to keep your knowledge and skills up to date

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
