Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

A larger than average primary school in Blackburn are keen to source a quality teaching and learning support assistant who can work with a number of children in Year 5 from September. The SENCO in school contacted me yesterday to let me know that she anticipates a member of support staff to accept a role elsewhere, hence leave a gap in staffing. The role will be to work in small groups and on a 1:1 basis with children struggling to meet expected progress in Maths and English. You will be expected to work from 0845 until 1530 every day from September, with the expectation to stay with the school on a temp. to perm. basis. This is a gap in staffing and so this role will not just be a simple supply role, you will be expected to take up the full role of a Level 2 teaching assistant. You will be treated as a full time member of staff and so your performance must reflect this. The Head teacher in school is looking to appoint a member of staff who holds the same philosophy and ethos when it comes to support children in his school. He will be looking for a member of staff who is committed and passionate about raising standards as well as encouraging personal development and social interaction.

The school hold a GOOD Ofsted grading from 2016. The report specifies that most lessons observed were GOOD or OUTSTANDING. The children's behaviour is exemplary and despite the children arriving from socially deprived backgrounds the level of progress they make is also GOOD, with most children starting in Reception working behind National Expectations and ending in Year 6 level with National Average attainment levels.

This is a great opportunity for any aspiring Teacher as well; why not gain some valuable experience in preparation for starting your teaching journey? The role will be for any practitioner currently qualified at Level 2 or equivalent. You must command a strong written and spoken English as well as holding English and Maths GCSE C grade or above. You must be committed to under taking at least a terms work in school as once you accept the role you will be expected to hand a notice period in to the school. Another pre-requisite for the role will be to have experience in working alongside children in the UKS2 classes; this is essential to the applying practitioners being shortlisted.
