An exciting opportunity to join the staff of a highly successful SEN school as a Teaching Assistant. This is a full time position to start asap!
The roles and responsibilities for the position include:
- To provide additional input (e.g. withdrawal 1:1 or of small groups) where appropriate, delivering intervention programmes.
- To support named pupils in improving motivation, confidence and self-esteem.
- Under the guidance of the Head of Learning Support, maintain SEN records pertaining to named pupils.
- To advise staff about named pupils specific SEN/LDD needs; identifying potential barriers and suggesting strategies and resources.
- To support teachers in implementing specific teaching programmes.
- To work pro-actively with all other members of staff to ensure the care and safety of all children.
- To attend staff meetings, as appropriate.
- To identify personal training needs and to attend appropriate internal and external in-service training.
The experience and skills required for this role include:
Essential:
- A good basic education to GCSE level in English and Maths, or the equivalent.
- A willingness to undertake further training.
- Experience of working with children.
- The ability to relate well to children and adults and establish positive relationships.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- A basic understanding of child development and learning processes.
- A basic awareness of policy/legislation relating to safeguarding and health and safety.
- A positive approach and the ability to encourage and enthuse.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Good use of own initiative and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Effective time management.
- Patience and the ability to be calm under pressure.
Desirable:
- Further relevant qualifications, (e.g., NVQ, Teaching Assistant Qualification, specific training relating to learning difficulties and/ or disabilities).
- Experience of working with children in an educational environment.
- Experience of working with children with SEN and/or disabilities.
- A working knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies.
- A working knowledge of relevant policies and legislation (e.g., safeguarding).

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
