Fine Art Teacher

An exciting opportunity for an innovative Teacher of Fine Art and Art and Design has arisen in Southampton. You will join a modern Academy in a newly built school exploring a curriculum to inspire creative and inventive artists within its pupils.

The successful Teacher will have experience of teaching Fine Art or Art & Design in KS3 & 4. In addition, you are enthusiastic, engaging and inspiring, and will:

- Plan and prepare fun learning opportunities tailored to the individual needs of each child;

- Assess individual learning needs and work on a group and class basis;

- Maintain positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies;

- Monitor pupils' work and set targets for progress, through effective and thorough marking;

- Assess and record pupils' progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise the level at which the pupil is achieving;

- Be committed to ensuring pupils make good sustained progress and inspire pupils to reach their full potential through engaging and stimulating teaching.

KS3 explore Fine Art and Art and Design in the following subject areas; Natural Forms & Colour – Mark, Drawing techniques, Monochromatic Material, Mixing and Blending, Applying colour Theory through techniques and processes, Man Made Structure, Perspective in drawing, Scale and Composition, Architecture, Identity and Portraiture, Proportion, Technical Drawing and styles and culture.

KS4 consists of practise, process and research – Pupils create their own personal projects with the focus upon techniques including Printmaking, Mono print and Etching, Technical Drawing and layering and Refinement. Year 10’s will sit a practical mock examination which will culminate to 10 hours. Year 11’s will be given their exam topics in January read to sit during their examination period in the summer term.

The Academy has just short of 1000 pupil on roll in a purpose built site to accommodate a larger intake for the future. The building consists of glass fronted classrooms and large open spaces to allow for creative working environments in which pupils and staff can collaborate ideas and teaching methods.
