English Teacher

Maths and English Teacher required within specialist Hearing Impaired School!

• Full time teaching post in specialist school for Hearing Impaired learners!
• Opportunity to gain experience working with BSL
• Additional training available including Team Teach and ASC awareness

Teaching Personnel are looking for a Teacher to work in a specialist school for Hearing Impaired Learners, specifically supporting within a Post 16 group of learners, delivering Functional Skills, Wider Key Skills, Skills for Life. The school caters for deaf children aged 3–19 with equal access to language (English and BSL), literacy and numeracy and all curriculum areas.

Applicants should be good/outstanding practitioners with high expectations of learning and behaviour, a proven record of delivering quality teaching and learning to young people with a wide range of abilities. Learning is complemented by dedicated teaching assistants, with support from both a specialist speech and language therapist and an audiologist.

Applicants will have the following key skills:

• Able to promote and encourage independent, challenging learning

• To arrange, plan, prepare, deliver and assess tutorials for students

• To be aware of communication profiles of individual learners and participate in whole school approaches to teaching and learning

• To support the audiological needs of pupils e.g. hearing aids and cochlear implants. Encourage students to seek appropriate help from the Audiologist or Audiology Assistant.

• To be involved in devising and delivering programmes to foster Independent Living Skills

• To liaise with other professionals including Social Services, physical and mental health professionals and voluntary organisations to ensure a holistic approach

Please note it is NOT essential that you have experience working with hearing impaired learners as there will be Communication Support Workers within the classroom.

The successful applicant will benefit from a personalised CPD plan including British Sign Language and the opportunity to work towards an MA which includes Teacher of the Deaf status.
