Day to day and pre booked supply in Blackburn with Darwen
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
It has been another busy half term with plenty of client schools booking supply with Teaching Personnel. We have noticed the usage for Primary Schools has increased constantly over the half term with the start of September being particularly slow and then progressively busier towards the end. The reason for the amount of supply tends to vary depending on the schools' needs. This half term there has been a good amount of sickness covered, particularly on the morning. Other reasons vary from 'course cover', 'release time cover' and 'planned absences'. With the ad hoc nature of supply, there is an amount of flexibility you will need in terms of your availability and the amount of travel you are prepared to undertake in order to secure work. The most successful supply teachers tend to be the ones who get into the classroom and hit the ground running. They manage classes well and use a range of behaviour management techniques to ensure all the children are working to their expected levels.
Schools are also good at rebooking teachers they like, usually the ones who are bright and enthusiastic about making a difference. Schools will actively request the same members of staff to ensure they have good continuity and get some sort of guarantee that they are getting a good member of staff. With this in mind, first impressions are very important when arriving in school…most will make a judgement within your first couple of minutes in school. The Head teacher in our client schools are always keen to meet new supply staff and will take it upon themselves to introduce themselves. They will also be keen to gain feedback from the class teaching assistants who will provide verbal feedback. Teaching Personnel are always keen to follow up on any days work to ensure we gain the relevant feedback. This feedback is then used to ensure schools are rebooking their preferred staff and ensure continuity.
You will be expected to follow any lesson plans left by the absent teacher or in the absence of any planning, you will be expected to deliver your own work. It is therefore important that you are able to pull out any work on the morning to cover a variety of classes.
