The School based in Bognor Regis are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor to start in September to supervise whole classes during the short term absence of teachers.
It really is an excellent time to join this school. The school achieved a ‘good’ ofsted rating with 'Outstanding' Leadership and 'Outstanding' Personal Development and Welfare. Their progress 8 score in 2019 is the highest of all local non-selective schools and they have fantastic facilities to enable the delivery of a world class curriculum.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be required to supervise whole classes during the short term absence of teachers. A Cover Supervisor is similar to a teacher in that they are responsible for a whole class of students and deliver the lesson that has been set by the usual teacher; however it is not a requirement to have specific subject knowledge. Instead, you should be able to build excellent rapport with students and manage a class well to ensure to continuity of learning. As part of your role, you would be expected to implement school policies as usual to maintain a high level of standards and expectations so that students remain on task. You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills that ensure understanding and to report back to staff concerning pupil progress.
Employment as a Cover Supervisor provides excellent experience to be able to access a PGCE or Schools Direct route into teaching. Many people use the role of cover supervisor as a steppingstone to a teaching career. Those with the right skills and temperaments will find the work incredibly rewarding.
The following skills/experience are desirable:
- Highly adaptable as you would not have a regular timetable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A positive, enthusiastic and assertive nature
- Prior experience working with teenagers
- Be educated to degree level with a genuine passion for working with young people within the education sector
- Some prior knowledge of the National Curriculum
It is fundamental that Cover Supervisors at this school are able demonstrate they have experience of working with secondary age children in a leadership style position. The school welcomes applications of graduates from any national curriculum subject, however can consider non-graduates who have suitable experience; you may have worked as a sports coach or youth leader.
The school is a large school with around 1500 students and 200 staff. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
