A secondary school in Carshalton is looking for support staff to start asap.

The school

The school recently opened a new site, purpose built to meet the needs of 11 - 19 year olds with Autism and Complex needs.

Classes are located in KS groups with a separate entrance and facilities for students at Post 16. The approaches to learning is based on TEACCH principles and incorporate working with a multi-professional team. Staff receive highly specialised training to ensure they understand the needs of pupils with ASD.

The wonderful new campus is a vibrant, inspirational learning place designed specifically to meet the very special needs of learners with ASD. In order for them to achieve aspirational outcomes, the facilities include low arousal classrooms with 1.1 work rooms, sensory room, gym for OT and sensory circuits, spa pool, therapy room, art/ D/T room, Lifeskills area, specialist recreation areas including a Muga and bike track and outside learning environment.

Role:

There are both part time and full time positions available as the school is expanding to take on more pupils.

The pupils are aged 11 - 19 years old and are on the Autism spectrum, from mild to severe, therefore it is essential that you have some experience working with SEN children. If you have little to none experience, but you are very keen to gain some and want a career in the education sector then the school are happy to consider you, provided you have a resilient and pro-active approach. Those who have experience in care-work, support-work or youth-work should also apply.

The pupils take swimming classes throughout the week and you will be expected to get into the pool with them, so you must be confident in water.

you will work both 1:1 with pupils and group work, assisting with core subject learning, activities and social skills building exercises.
