BSL Teaching Assistant

A hearing impaired school is seeking a new Teaching Assistant to work in a class of 8 pupils.

The position is to start immediately, on a full time basis. If you know British Sign Language and want to work with children then please apply below.

The Role:

The School supports deaf pupils, both primary and secondary, with servere and profound deafness. It is well equip to support pupils and their SEN needs. The children use Phonak, MLXi and Radio Aids. They are used together with hearing aids or cochlear implants.

You will work 1:1 with a pupil as well as work as a general Teaching Assistant in the classroom.

The school have requested somebody who has a background in care and have had gastronomy feeding and tracheostomy feeding training as some of the pupils have physical disabilities.

This is a full time role, to start at 8:30am to 4pm. The school are looking to interview potential candidates in the first week of February.

You will work with the following tools:

  • Captions
  • Visual stimulus
  • Computers

Role based in South London

Requirement:

  • BSL Level 2 minimum
  • Background in education / SEN support
  • Experience working in a Primary and/or Secondary environment
  • Confidence working with children who have various levels of hearing impairments.
  • Skilled in supporting children in both mainstream and SEN.
  • Able to use communication aids proficiently to enhance the children's learning experience
