Blackheath primary school, Autism support SEN

Job description

A lovely primary school in Blackheath are looking to recruit a full time member of support staff for their year 6 class. They have a student diagnosed with autism, who requires 1:1 support at all times. This means that your job will mostly involve supporting this child, however you will naturally interact and support all the other children in the class too.

You will be required to:

  • Work full time (Monday – Friday, 08:30am – 15:30pm)
  • Commit to the rest of the academic year 2019/2020
  • Provide 1:1 support for one specific child with autism
  • Assist with academic, social, communication and sensory development
  • Work in a team with the class teacher and another teaching assistant

You must already have experience of working with autism, either in a school setting or an alternative. Experience of using PECs, Makaton or BSL is highly desirable, although this child is verbal the school uses basic signing on a daily basis.
