A specialised healthcare centre in Cheshire is currently looking to recruit a behaviour support assistant to start in September. The position is full time and is initially for the first school term September – December 2017. It is essential that the learning support assistant has extensive experience working with children and young people who display signs of challenging behaviour.
The setting is an independent healthcare provider which provides specialist treatment in: education, assessment and residential care for children and young people with epilepsy. The centre also provides education for pupils aged 7-19 years with SEND and a range of adult services, including: community housing, high dependency units, learning disabilities, a mental health unit and services for adults and children with challenging behaviour.
The role will involve providing direct support to children and young people who display signs of challenging behaviour. Therefore, the ideal behaviour support assistant will have extensive experience in supporting children and young people who display signs of challenging behaviour in achieving their optimal potential.
Due to the specific needs of the children and young people the behaviour support assistant will have:
- A level 2 Teaching Assistant (desirable)
- An in-depth understanding of the needs of children and young people who display signs of challenging behaviour
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of pupils with SEND
- Team- Teach training
- An understanding of crisis prevention and be able to develop de-escalate challenging situations
