Behaviour Mentor
I am currently working with a number of primary and secondary pupil referral units and alternative provisions in the Bradford area, who are looking to appoint additional behaviour support assistants once schools re-open to support students in the return to school.
As schools have been closed for over 12 weeks, with this continuing into the summer, there has been very little formal teaching taking place. Students will be faced with a number of challenges when they return to school both emotionally and educationally. Working as a behaviour mentor you will be required to support students transition back into the classroom by having a calm and reassuring manner, liaising with parents and carers about students behaviours and emotions and by being encouraging and pro-active with all students. Learners will have become acustomed to the relaxed environment of being at home and may face challenges returning to a more formal education structure.
Working in a pupil referral unit or alternative provision, students can display challening behaviour due to a number of reasons including social, emotional, mental health needs, ADHD, confusion with tasks, difficulty articlating thier emotions, outbursts from internal thoughts or needing attention and help with learning. They may also be looked after children or come from a care background which again can bring its own challenges.
Ideal Candidate
- Be available to start work as soon as schools re-open
- Hold at least a Level 2 or 3 qualification
- Have a calm and patient manner with the ability to think on your feet
- Be engaging and enthusiastic towards students progress at all levels
- Have experience working with children and young people (special educational needs experience is ideal but not essential)
- Be looking to pursue a career in education
- Have relevant trainig or be willing to undergo any necessary training eg Team Teach
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Hold an advanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one, Teaching Personnel can support with this.
With schools unable to do their own recruitment for long term positions starting in September effectively, there has never been a better time to register with Teaching Personnel. If you think the above position is what you have been looking for or would like to find out more about this position and the other opportunities available through Teaching Personnel, then please apply via the link below or contact the Leeds Bradford Secondary and SEN Team.
