Job description

Teaching Personnel are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join a busy and committed team of staff for a school based in Torquay. The right candidate will be happy to support teachers and pupils in a range of ways from 1:1 individual support tailored to the pupil to working with groups of children with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs (Team Teach or equivalent training an advantage but not essential). The role is full time and the right candidate will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent position depending on their success in that role.

Our client offers a nurturing, safe and non-judgemental space for children who display challenging behaviour. These pupils might be LAC (Looked After Children) or from a disadvantaged background so we need someone who is empathetic and passionate about having a positive affect and contribution to their education and lives. The school is based in Torquay and is a specialist provision for students that have been excluded from mainstream education. It offers support in academic and vocational subjects, identifying the strengths of the students and working with them to help them to become independent and employable.

This role would particularly suit:

  • Teaching Assistants looking for a new challenge.
  • People with experience working with challenging children.
  • People who are wanting to gain more experience in teaching/mental health.
  • We are currently recruiting passionate and experienced Teaching Assistants to work 1:1 in a classroom setting with pupils that have complex and diverse Special Needs. We cater to Primary and Secondary specialist settings and we can offer full and part - time work.
  • Candidates with experience working with children or those with Special Needs.
  • If you have a lot to give and want to make a difference to the lives of children with SEN or if you are wanting to expand your experience across a wider age and ability range then this role is for you.

If you feel like you meet the criteria for this role then I would LOVE to hear from you! Call Ryan on 01392 267288 or email

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
