Behaviour support role in Cardiff CF5 (Year 4)

One our very supportive Primary school located in Cardiff (Ely area) are looking to appoint an additional Learning Support Assistant from early November 2018 ongoing (with the potential of a permanent contract) to work 1:1 with a little boy in Year 4 with Emotional Behaviour Difficulties.

The Pupil :

The young pupil has been in a mainstream setting since he started school however finds it challenging to adapt to different environments/classes and responds to change with very challenging behaviour (verbally and occasionally physically). The school staff including the class teacher are very supportive and working little by little on making progress with his behaviour and making sure he doesn't harm himself or others. He does interact well with other children will easily feel targeted due to lack of confidence which triggers his behavioural issues. The school have described him as a young pupil who needs someone he can rely on, a role model who will take him under their wing and have a nurturing, caring, patient, fun but also strong personality. He responds very well to sporting activities especially Rugby, therefore somebody with a sporting background and/or passion would be ideal to bond with the little boy.

The Ideal Candidate :

You will need to have experience working with/around children with Challenging Behaviour, ideally within a school setting or in a Sports environment (personal/voluntary experience will be considered on the same level as professional experience). Ideally, you will hold an Education and/or Special Needs and/or Social Care related qualification/training. Recent graduates in Psychology with applied experience are also encouraged to apply. You must be willing to travel to Ely and be able to work Monday to Friday between 8:30am/9am and 3:30pm/4pm.

Applicants Must :

- Have the legal right to work in the UK
- Hold a Child Workforce Only DBS registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one - full assistance provided)
- Be registered with the Education Workforce Council (compulsory requirement in Wales) - please note that if you are living in England, you can still register with the EWC which will give you the opportunity to work on both sides of the border
- Provide at least two professional or character references
- Be available to interview and/or trial asap
- Be available to start on short notice
- Be living in Cardiff and/or have plans to move to Cardiff in the near future and/or be willing to travel to Cardiff
