Behaviour Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are working on behalf of one our partnership secondary schools in Cwmbran to appoint a behaviour mentor. Since secondary schools have returned after the latest lockdown there has become an apparent need to help support pupils with their behaviour and engagement within the classroom. More specifically, the schools are looking for someone to support a pupil in year 8 who has struggled with so much changed this academic year which has impacted their behaviour. This pupil tends to disrupt the class by shouting out, talking to other pupils and other general disruptive behaviour.

In this role you will support this pupil 1:1 in the mainstream setting while they attend their different subject lessons. You will encourage the pupil to engage with other pupils and the class teacher in a constructive way and provide help to the pupil to complete their work when needed. This pupils doesn’t show good levels of resilience especially when it comes to work set by the class teacher so you must encourage to pupil to try as hard as they can before seeking help from yourself or others.

If this pupil reaches a point where it is not sustainable for them to remain in the classroom the school has a base unit where you can take pupils decompress and deal with what is causing them distress. This bas also supports all teaching assistant within the school for any advice or training so you will have a strong network of people around you.

Ideal Behaviour Mentor:

• Experience working with children
• Background in sport, care, support work or education
• Graduates – social work, psychology, policing etc.
• Available Full Time
