Behaviour Support Assistant

Job description

A school in Chard are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to start ASAP. Full time ideally, however they will consider job share. 

The school works with children with medical needs in Primary and Secondary education. The school has six different sites in and around the Yeovil area. Each site caters for a different need i.e. Secondary Medical and Mental health, KS4 behaviour, Middle school behaviour. You will be working on the site in Chard that provides discreet work for pupils in Years 9 and 10 who are at risk of, or have been, permanently excluded from school. The focus is on re-engagement and all pupils are encouraged to develop their learning and resilience skills and the schools aim is to support them back to mainstream school so that they are able to enjoy the wide range of experiences and a mainstream school placement provides.

The successful candidate will:

  • have experience working within a school setting
  • have experience working with children and/or adults who have SEMH or display challenging behaviour
  • be resilient and confident working with challenging behaviour
  • Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a Teaching Assistant in a special needs school
  • Have the ability to engage pupils in their learning and support them in their social, emotional and personal wellbeing
  • be nurturing and enthusiastic
  • have experience in delivering outdoor education/experience within the sports industry

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
