Job description

A full time position for a Behaviour Support Assistant commencing in September 2018. Initially the position is temporary for the first term September - December 2018 However, there could be a possibility for permanent dependent on the needs of the school.

The setting is a Secondary Special School in Rochdale who are currently working in partnership with Teaching Personnel. The school currently has 253 pupils enrolled and provides education for pupils with SEN. The school caters for pupils with a range of needs including: pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and pupils with profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

The role will involve working in collaboration with a range of professionals including: Teachers, school support staff and professionals from external agencies . It will also involve planning and implementing outreach activities that are designed to encourage the ongoing development of pupils who display signs of challenging behaviour.

The ideal Behaviour Support Assistant will have:

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
  • Experience working within individuals with challenging behaviour
  • A good understanding of de-escalation tactics and how to prevent situations reaching crisis point
