Behaviour Support Assistant- Darwen Primary School

Child with oppositional behaviour requires 1:1 support.

Support required to cater for social and emotional needs.

The child is currently working in KS2 but is assessed at Year 1 level.

A large school in the centre of Darwen are currently working with the Teaching Personnel branch in Lancashire to provide a member of staff to support a young child in KS2 with behavioural needs. The SENCO has specified that the child is aggressive in his/her outlook of school and is very oppositional with staff and children. The child has worked between the mainstream school and a local referral unit in order to gain more of a structure and improve behaviour. Before the child can make a permanent move to an alternative provision the Local Authority have asked the school to provide full time support from week beginning September 2019.

The school are very keen to appoint a member of staff who has previously worked alongside individual children who display extremely challenging behaviour. The SENCO has specified that they would prefer a member of staff who is Team Teach qualified and comfortable in supporting physical and verbally aggressive children. The SENCO also noted that it would be beneficial for the applying candidates to have worked in a referral unit as the behaviour of the child is very aggressive.

The school are keen to support this child both socially and academically so it is important that the applying candidates have a good level of knowledge in Maths, Reading and Writing. You will be expected to work solely with this child and so the school are also keen to appoint a candidate who is comfortable working 1:1 and not just a general TA.

The rate of pay will reflect the level of experience with behaviour and is to be expected to be around £9.50 per hour. The working hours are not concrete but expected to be around 30 per week with the view to additional hours for welfare cover.

In order to apply for this role you must have the following;

Level 2 or above qualification (Teaching Assistant or Teaching and Learning)

Experience working alongside children with behavioural needs

Written and spoken English to a high standard

Flexibility to work additional hours covering welfare work
