Leyland – Behaviour Support Assistant

& Cover Supervisor

A secondary school in Leyland are looking to appoint a Cover Supervisor on a flexible basis.

  • Position: Cover Supervisor
  • Location: Leyland
  • Start: 19th November 2019
  • Full time and part time
  • Hours: Flexible – day to day
  • Pay rate: GBP57 - GBP69 per day
  • Excellent behaviour management skills required

The role:

You will be working within the inclusion unit/student services in school, ensuring pupils are behaving in the classroom, responsible for making sure pupils are getting on with their work outside of the class room and managing pupils queries and questions. Experience within secondary schools isn’t essential; however you must have experience in supporting children, young adult or adults who display difficult behaviour.

Duties:

  • Provide assistance to pupils with difficult behaviour who have been excluded from classroom teaching.
  • Manage and handle pupils with behavioural problems.
  • Develop and initiate safety standards for pupils at all times.
  • Monitor record and document observations of pupil behaviour.

The school is located in the centre of Leyland and has approximately 350 pupils on roll, making it smaller than average. The school is located a walk away from the Leyland town centre, with multiple bus and train routes.

The community and family feel is one of the school's strength; the size of the school means that each pupil is well known and supported by staff. 

Even though this position is a flexible contact, you can be of comfort knowing that Teaching Personnel will be continuously working behind the scenes sourcing you your new exciting role; this role is a perfect opportunity to gain invaluable experience in secondary schools, to progress into a career in Teaching or a Pastoral role in schools.

You will also be expected to cover lessons in the absence of the classroom teacher. As a Cover Supervisor in school, you will also have to be confident in handling challenging behaviour.

What is a Cover Supervisor?

  • To supervise work that has been set in accordance with the school policy.
  • To manage the behaviour of students whilst they are undertaking the work to ensure a constructive environment in accordance with the school’s Behaviour.
  • To respond to any questions from students about process and procedures.
  • To deal with any immediate problems or emergencies.
