Behaviour Mentor
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Teaching Personnel has a growing presence in North Somerset, particularly Weston-Super-Mare and we are currently looking for behaviour mentors to work at a large mainstream secondary school in this area. The roles (of which there are 3) are all due to start in September on a full-time basis but there is a need urgently for one right away so if you are looking for something to start right away, this could be for you!
The School
This school has joined a very successful Multi-Academy-Trust and has gone from strength to strength. With a full year 7 and an outstanding leadership team this is the perfect time to join the school!
[This school has] brought about a significant, positive change in the standard of pupils' behaviour at the school and the policies, practice and culture of safeguarding in a short period of time. Pupils, both in and out of lessons, generally behave well, and all the outside areas of the school are seen by pupils as safe.
The pupils enjoy going to this school and visiting it regularly, I particularly like the camaraderie and good sense of humour between staff and pupils.
The Role
You will be supporting mainly male pupils on a 1:1 basis who are unable to cope in mainstream class. You will be working with them in a separate building under the guidance of an outstanding SENCO. You will be given support and training to improve your behaviour management skills and will be regularly reviewed. This is a very demanding role and will fall in the normal hours of school time (8:30 to 3:30)
The Candidate
The school is NOT looking for a supply candidate, it is looking for someone to be part of the school community. Since the behaviour policy has been put in place, not only has behaviour but attendance and results have dramatically improved. It is ESSENTIAL that everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet and policies and procedures are followed.
Will is more important than skill here: you don't need to have restraint training or be an SEN specialist, you need empathy with children, confidence and assertiveness in approach and a huge amount of patience. These pupils are some of the most vulnerable in society, so whether you have the life skills as a mental health care worker or a Foster Parent, these are all relevant. Secondary or SEN (Special Education Needs) experience is preferred but not essential.
What's in it for you?
- No long application forms - I am the conduit between school and candidate and I have the autonomy to put candidates forward for interviews
- The perfect opportunity to start your education career
- The most rewarding role helping the most vulnerable in society
- Full-time, long-term work!
If this interests you, please get in touch immediately as schools want to short list ASAP. I look forward to hearing from you.
