Behaviour Mentor - Barnsley (S70)

You may have experience in a Primary setting, a Youth Work Programme, Sports Coaching or in another capacity. We are looking for patient and resilient staff members to support children in a Primary setting who are expressing challenging behaviour or struggling to cope in a classroom environment. We are representing a school in Barnsley (S70) who are looking for someone who can support their new behaviour policy across school. The school have good transport links, but access to a car would be beneficial. The school are in a position to offer either full or part time work, depending on your availability.
We are looking for someone who has experience supporting children with needs such as SEMH, ASC, BESD, ADHD and PDA. The ideal candidate will be Team Teach trained (or a similar behaviour management strategy) and have experience delivering Nurture interventions.
There are many children who find school a challenge - working in a whole class or following routines. Many children can be unsettled and express challenging behaviour - we are looking for someone with experience managing children on a 121 or small group basis. You will need to act as a role model and mentor to children who are finding the school environment a challenge, this will include delivering structured activities and learning programmes to support pupils in building relationships and will need to take into account pupil learning styles and positive behaviour management. As a 'behaviour mentor' you will need to challenge and motivate children in your care, to reinforce self-esteem and encourage them to take part in whole class activities in a positive manner. You may be involved in improving their attendance in school, and will work with other members of staff to create a consistent behaviour plan for the children that you are supporting.
Our Ideal Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant will have:
- Minimum of NVQ L2 or equivalent
- Good Literacy, Numeracy and communication skills (A - C, GCSE Levels)
- Recent experience in a school/PRU/Youth Work/Coaching setting
- Team Teach/MAPA qualification - or willing to train
- Ability to create an inclusive environment
- Ability to use own initiative and work independently and as part of a team
- Patient, resilient and calm manner
- Live in S70 or the surrounding area
