Autism Teaching Assistant/ Support Worker-Edmonton

We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant to support a primary child who has special needs in an 'Outstanding' special school based in Edmonton. The school has fantastic facilities on site and CPD training available termly, this is a Sports specialist school so anyone with a coaching or sports background we are keen to speak with! This will be working with a challenging pupil with Autism on a 1:1 basis and he has behavioural needs associated with his condition so previous experience with special needs and good behaviour management is essential! This will involve supporting the boy in his class of 8 children who all have a statement of autism or ADHD , they are a lively group ! You will also take him for 1:1 support if he is disruptive in class. The pupil is in a KS2 class because he could not manage his mainstream school placement. We are looking for someone with solid knowledge and practical experience of supporting children with Autism and challenging behaviours, someone who can be a positive role model for this pupil and overcome the challenges of working with a child of a challenging nature . This post is for an immediate start in September with the potential to secure a permanent contract!

Autism Teaching Assistant:

• Has experience and understanding of supporting a pupil with Autism and challenging behaviours
• Flexible to deliver both 1:1 and groups support based on child's needs to deliver the aims of his Educational Healthcare Plan
• Able to use PECS or Makaton techniques to support child's communication needs
• Holds knowledge of the primary curriculum KS1-KS2
• Approach or Team Teach training is highly desired
• Patient , confident , resilient personality
• Must be available for an immediate start in September
• Able to work during term time full time 8.30am -3.30 pm Monday to Friday in Edmonton
