1:1 SEN Support Assistant - Autism Experience required.
Are you an Autism experienced Teaching Assistant who is looking to make a difference in a mainstream primary school supporting a child on a 1:1 basis?
Can you manage challenging behaviour and ensure progress is made on a daily basis?
Are you a Level 3 qualified teaching assistant with prior experience with children who are working well behind expected age related levels?
If you have answered YES to all of the above questions then you may be the perfect candidate for the current position I am looking to appoint for.
Specification:
A Level 3 qualified Teaching Assistant who has the drive and commitment to raising standards in the class room, specifically supporting an individual child who is diagnosed with Autism. You will have to be flexible in supporting a child with challenging behaviour and extreme mood swings. You will have to be experienced in working alongside children who are low functioning; with a special mention on communication skills and ensuring the child is able to access the Curriculum on their level. You will be well supported by the class teacher and the dedicated SENCO in school, you will meet with them regularly to ensure all the needs of the child are met and that you are planning for progression. The SENCO in school works closely with the child's Education Plan and will liaise with the parents, informing them of the child's progress and behaviour.
The expected working hours are 0845-1530 each day. The role will be 5 days a week!
The child will be arriving in school from January 2019 and the SENCO is preparing for him to arrive and making plans for the school meeting his individual needs.
The school have asked for the applying candidates to be L3 qualified.
They have also asked for candidates who have good experiences working with MAKATON on basic signing as well as visual timetables.
The Head teacher is also keen to meet individuals who have at least 12 months experience working in a mainstream or SEN provision. This will be essential as the needs of the child are very complexed. In order to be successful at this role, the candidate will need to be thick skinned and be able to work effectively with challenging behaviour and at times aggressive behaviour.
In the last twelve months, Teaching Personnel have supported a good number of client schools with SEN support. There are more children who are being granted Education Plans and funding which allows schools to spend money directly on the support of individual children - meaning.
