Full-time Autism Learning Support Assistant
This outstanding independent special primary school in North London is looking for 3 permanent members of staff to join their team as Learning support assistants. They are a small school catering to 6 classes of 8/10 students who have a diagnosis of Autism and varying levels of speech and language difficulties. The role is full-time Monday-Friday, with the promise of a permanent contact at the end of 12 weeks.
A majority of children in the school are non-verbal; therefore individuals who have experience with British Sign Language, Makaton or PECS are highly desirable for this position. Experience working with children with Autism and some challenging behaviours is essential due to the high needs of the children in this school.
The school benefits from Occupational therapists, music therapists and art therapists and work closely with the teachers and support staff to ensure that all students are receiving an education which maximises their potential beyond a school setting also.
The school is looking for someone who wants a permanent position due to their commitment to continuous professional development, offering excellent training opportunities. The current Assistant Head Teacher at the school joined 10 years ago as a member of agency staff and has since been supported in his career development from Teaching Assistant through to teacher, team leader and then Assistant Head. This is the same kind of support and developments they are hoping to put into and receive from new members of staff.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be well organised and timely
- Have experience working with children with Autism
- Ideally have some experience using non-verbal communication systems like PECS, Makaton or BSL (Desirable but not essential)
- Have an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
