1:1 Autistic Spectrum Condition Support Assistant required for large Secondary School in Cardiff.

  • ASC specialist support assistant
  • Temporary-Permanent Contract
  • Opportunity to work within a specialist facility attached to a mainstream Secondary school

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a large Secondary school in Cardiff who are currently recruiting for a teaching assistant to take up a long term position supporting autism within their ASC unit. The school have highlighted the need for an extra member of staff to support within the unit. The level of support required would be on a 1:1 basis and you would aim to build rapport with the pupil as well as support academically.

The successful applicant for this role will start as soon as possible.

The school have stressed the importance of the right candidate having a resilient and positive approach to learning and although no previous experience of working with ASC is needed, the correct attitude is paramount.

The Position:

  • Supporting Autism (ASC) in KS3&KS4
  • Recognising trigger points and crisis points for pupils
  • Supporting with communication using PECS
  • Understanding the needs of the pupils

The Candidate Experience:

  • Psychology Graduate - understanding of communication issues and barriers
  • Social Workers and Youth Workers have done well in this role previously
  • SEN Teaching Assistants with Autism or similar experience
  • Respite Carers

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
