Autism Specialist Support Assistant required full time from the second week in September
Experience working with sensory needs are essential and also experience working in a referral unit will be preferred
Experience working alongside children with Autism and related behaviours is essential.
A large three-form entry Primary School in Blackburn are currently seeking a Specialist Support Assistant to work with a child on a 1:1 basis who is diagnosed with low functioning Autism. The school is currently working with Teaching Personnel exclusively and are keen to meet with potential candidates in the first week back in September to ascertain suitability. The following specification can be used to determine whether this is a role you would be interested in;
Full time School working hours, five days a week (6.25 working hours per day).
Support a child in a Y3 class who is diagnosed with Autism; there is currently 1:1 support in place and the child is not working in the mainstream classroom at present. The child worked through the infants within the classroom but since the turn of this year, he has struggled to keep on task and work without disrupting other children.
The child struggles to work in line with the Year 2/3 lesson objectives and so he becomes highly frustrated when he can not access the Curriculum. He is sensitive to sensory needs and is keen to keep to a routine. The school are using a range of strategies and techniques in order to hopefully move the child back to the classroom. There are other provisions in school which the child works in, including a nurture and sensory room.
This is a specialist role and not to be mistaken for a general teaching assistant role. If you are considering applying for this position and you do not have ASC experience and multi-sensory experience then please do not apply.
The SENCO is very passionate and hands on with the children on her register and is keen to appoint members of staff who are qualified and experienced in working with high and low functioning children with Autism. She will be keen to speak to potential candidates who can demonstrate they can use a variety of techniques and strategies to ensure the child progresses socially and academically.
