Job description

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a large mixed comprehensive secondary school within the Bury LEA to appoint an experienced Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) Mentor to join their support faculty on a full-time basis. This position is required immediately and will initially be offered until the end of the academic year (2019).

  • Full-time ASC Mentor required, immediate start until the end of the academic year initially.
  • Previous experience working with young people with Autism is essential to be considered for this position.
  • Opportunity to work within an Ofsted graded 'Good' secondary school.
  • Earn up to £55-75 per day dependant upon previous experience.

The incoming ASC Mentor will be an enthusiastic, passionate and empathetic individual who prides themselves in the support of young people. This Bury secondary school has a pupil centred, inclusive approach to education. Committed to ensuring all pupils receive a high-quality education and realise their academic potential regardless of any challenges they may face.

  • Provide day to day classroom support to pupils with ASC on a 1:1 or in small groups establishing good rapports with pupils, acting as a role model and acting on all needs as required.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Help to plan lessons by preparing materials and resources.
  • Have the confidence to address conflict and challenging behaviour.

The successful ASC Mentor will be joining a dynamic secondary school, with just over 800 pupils on roll aged 11- 16, ideally located to be accessed via the M66 and the surrounding areas; Rochdale, Salford and Bolton. The school also has various public transport options with links throughout Greater Manchester.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
