Academic Achievement Tutor for English required for September.

This is an exciting fixed-term (one year in the first instance) graduate level opportunity that will offer the right candidate the opportunity to share and use their expert subject knowledge to accelerate the progress of pupils in Literacy and English.

The successful candidate will be passionate about their subject and have high expectations of every child regardless of their background. They will recognise that some children require additional support to make the excellent progress we aspire to for all our learners. This role will have a significant impact on closing attainment gaps for disadvantaged pupils.

You will work with pupils, individually or in groups, who are eligible for the 'Pupil Premium' or 'Catch Up' funding. This funding is targeted at supporting pupils who are more likely to underachieve compared to their peers. Pupils you support will have a range of abilities.

Your expertise will be used to address the current underlying inequalities in attainment between children eligible for these premiums and their peers by ensuring that your specialist subject knowledge and skills reach the pupils who need it most.

You will work as a member of a department team, supporting and developing teaching and learning with a particular emphasis on closing gaps in pupil attainment. You will need to demonstrate that you will bring subject-specific skills, experience and an approach to young people and their learning that will enable them to develop over time. You will need to have the capacity to be creative and innovative, where appropriate, in the approaches you take. Guidance, supervision, coaching and training will be integral to how you are supported in the role.

You will work alongside experienced teachers to monitor the progress of the pupils you support and to plan, modify and implement interventions as needed.

Depending on your skills and experiences you will also have the opportunity to support the transition of KS2 to KS3 and support students who may have opted to take A Level English Literature and Language.

If you are a graduate of English and looking to gain valuable experience prior to applying for a Schools Direct Programme or PGCE or simply wish to help raise aspiration and attainment within your subject area, please send your CV and covering statement to dominique.long@teaching personnel.com.

First round of interviews will be held on Monday 21st May 2018. Additional interviews will be arranged on application. All positions ideally should be filled no later than Friday 31st May 2018.
