The Learning and Behaviour Mentor is a unique role supporting both young people and staff on the NCS programme. The role will involve supporting the engagement and development of young people who have learning needs and/or can exhibit challenging behaviour. Learning and Behaviour Mentors will also provide assistance to staff working with young people with additional support needs to help develop their strategies to support these young people.
This role is suitable for a passionate and confident person with experience of working with young people who can exhibit challenging behaviour and young people with learning support needs.
Main Responsibilities:
-Challenging Behaviour/Learning Needs
-Work with individual young people or small groups over a short period of time (1-3 days) to provide immediate support for their additional needs.
-Assess the learning needs of young people on the programme and suggest adaptations that can be made to sessions to support them and ensure they are included in activities.
-Staff team coaching/guidance
-Support seasonal staff teams on the ground to manage challenging behaviour effectively; including giving staff practical tips specific to individual young people and being an extra resource for the wave’s Programme Leader to manage evening time effectively.
-Coach and support seasonal staff on the ground working with young people with additional learning needs to help them to develop a longer term support plan.
